Genting Outdoor Theme Park

Today is the release of my results. Well, I would say I expected the worse, so I'm contented with it wasn't my expectation. (:

Okay, back to the post.. Genting's Theme Park is reopening their classic ride - Cyclone!
It's a 1.5 minute thrill ride, featuring a roller coaster that has 4 seats per coach.
I LOVE THRILL RIDES. One of my must-go rides is the one in Las Vegas, called Stratosphere :D
And I am so excited for this!

NanXiang Steamed Bun Restaurant

I bought vouchers for a buffet at Nan Xiang restaurant at bugis. Yes, buffet again..
Luckily my weight remained constant.
Here are photos of some of the food we've eaten!
 Sheng Jian Bao (Pan-fried bun)

Stir-fried duck meat (forgot the exact name)

Sweet and sour pork.

Ming Xia Jiao (Deep fried prawn dumpling)

Drunken chicken

Pork Ribs

Of course, we ordered other food as well.. Siew Mai, Har Gow, Xiao Long Bao etc..
The food came in pretty big portion for two for a buffet. Sweet and sour pork and pork ribs were starchy. It's very "gor gor",  I have no idea why..
Alot of the steamed dim sum like har gow and xiao long bao have quite thick skin and the prawns tasted like crystal prawns.
The two dishes that won us over was the duck meat and this Shanghai stir fried noodle.
We ordered these two dishes twice despite being damn full.
The duck meat was tasty and well-cooked, and the meat doesn't get stucked in your teeth when bitten.
The fried noodle uses la mian, which gives a chewy texture. If i'm not wrong, they fried it with XO sauce.

Dim sum wasn't fantastic although they specialise in it (I think?). I feel that the ala carte dishes were better.
The voucher cost $17.40 per person for weekday high tea, 3-5pm, excluding GST.
Our bill was about $23 per person after including GST and I would say for the variety, it was worth it.

One bad experience with a staff. I called in to make a reservation a day before. It was the longest time I've ever taken to get my reservation done =.=
A woman with China accent picked up. I said I wanted to make a reservation, she said hold on. Okay, so in the background I heard her settling bill with a customer. I'm fine with it..
After about 3-4 mins, she came back and said in Mandarin "you want to make a reservation? wait a while".
So I waited again and this time round, I heard her talking and laughing to her colleague in the background. Waited for another 2-3 mins and she finally came back to take down my reservation.

Oh yes, and the standard was quite inconsistent. The 1st round of our orders tasted better than the 2nd round, when the crowd came in.

Celebrate Christmas in Genting!

Not sure where to go this Christmas or New Year's Eve?
C'mon.. Town is too crowded.
We should just get out of town, literally.

Why not make a trip to Genting!
Christmas is related to snow and the closest (and cheapest) we can get is.... Cold weather.
Hahahah. Go to Genting to enjoy the coolness naturally!
To up one level, I REALLY want to go to Snow World and Genting has a newly renovated one!

My favourite activities have got to be shopping and eating and Genting has the best of both worlds.
Late night shopping till 31st December! Shops will be extending opening hours till 1am. Many shops are having promotions as well.

Even for food, there are promotions and there is such a wide variety of restaurants to choose from! I personally want to try the Ice Cream buffet at Coffee Terrace, Maxims Genting. The array of flavours is just mind-blowing.

This is damn exciting! I can totally imagine the moment the clock strikes 12 and the sky is lit by fireworks and all the rides in the theme park are lighted up. So carnival feel!

There are plenty of activities for people with different interests so.. go down to Genting this December! :D

Carousel Buffet

Alright, so last Saturday N and I brought his bro out for a buffet, a post PSLE meal. It was supposed to be earlier but we had to change it cos he was called back to office last minute.

Wide array of seafood.

I usually start off a buffet with seafood.. Followed by sashimi and other sushi, cooked food, dessert, and end off with other random stuff or food that I wanna eat again.
There was a largeeeee variety of seafood. The crabs were a tad salty, but I like the scallops though N said that the scallops were just average. I thought the scallops were quite huge compared to some other buffets that we've eaten. The lobsters were not very tasty.
Prawns were one of the best that I've eaten. Almost all buffet that has seafood will have the cold prawns, but  I think Carousel's was especially sweet, succulent, crunchy. I ate like a mountain of it (yes, high cholesterol. I know)

Some of the clams were seasoned (or are they stir-fried?) These were good too if you don't fancy the plain tasting ones.

Some cooked food like brussel sprouts, beef pie, turkey breast, quail meat, sausage
I gave those common food like cabbage, potato wedges etc a miss.

First time I tried quail meat. Nothing very spectacular, tastes like chicken.
I like the beef pie leh! Tastes like shepherd's pie just but it doesn't have cheese.
Turkey breast abit hard.

Pumpkin bisque with crab meat. OMG. I LOVE THIS.

Desserts. N love the white chocolate fondue. Well, it does tastes like white chocolate. But the colour is quite a turn off. It has a greenish shade, that looks like the bile that L4D boomer produces when he explodes. HAHAH. Might have pandan but I couldn't taste the pandan either.
The 2 pink triangular slices with a blueberry on top is called Strawberry Shortcake. Not the usual strawberry shortcake, but this one is more of a mousse.

The creme brulee is a waste. The one on top is my favourite dessert of all. I'm not sure if i'm correct, but I'm guessing it's a mont blanc cake cos I tasted chestnut. That lump of chocolate truffle on top is thick and smooth.

Overall I felt that the buffet is delicious and worth it! Service was excellent. The staff were attentive, topped up water and cleared our plates quite fast. I found a strand of hair on my plate among the seafood, alerted the staff and she immediately informed the manager, who then apologised and took a new plate of food for me.
The white chicken and roast duck was yummy! The char siew can forget about it cos it was quite bad. I know cos it's a halal buffet, the char siew is made of chicken. Did not like the sashimi cos I didn't like the way it was sliced. Other than that, I think it has lived up to expectations. (:
I went on a Saturday for lunch and it was $50++.
There was a Citibank card promotion. Total for 2 adults and 1 child was $139.89. Worth it.

Santa's coming

I think I'm slowly getting into the Christmas feel!
Love this season of the year.. A time where we look at the past year and reminisce, put behind the bad things, learn from mistakes, embrace the good things and look forward to the upcoming year!
Of course, the material stuff like gifts, celebrations and parties!

I've been trying to keep fit during this period. Eating less carbs and working out on alternate days (if possible), in light of the upcoming feasting. Actually, the feasting has already kinda started. Hahahah

To get into the spirit, N and I set up a Christmas tree at my house! Okay, it's the 2nd year we've done this. I bought the tree and stuff last year.. It looks small in the picture but it's actually taller than me!
Quite tedious okay.. to unpack everything, expand the branches, hang up the lights and then the decorations.
Lastly, vacuum the floor. My tree sheds like mad. It's like balding... Not looking forward to the tearing down ):

Ending off with a quote from a book that I'm currently reading:

"People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don't even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child - our own two eyes. All is a miracle."

Two movies in two days

I have not stepped into town for such a longggg time and I went there on two consecutive days this week. It was crazy. I would say the human traffic jam is worse than the vehicles on the road!

I was out with Eve to catch Ah Boys To Men and she had to bring Germaine along because there were already 3 kids at her house and her mum might not be able to manage. She's quite easy to take care of! Sleeps most of the time (:
Photo: Christmas shopping :)
Wore MAC mineral powder and blush out for the whole day and still looking good at night!

Outfit of the day. My current favourite, PS1 look alike bag, from LOVE ANASTASIA

We were not hungry after movie, so decided to walk to Ion as she had to buy Christmas presents from Sephora. Felt uncomfortable not having dinner so we went to the basement for some snacks.
Clockwise from top left: Gindaco Takoyaki, Sofries' cereal fries, Sofries' regular fries with sofly dip.

It was the first time I've heard of cereal fries. Pretty refreshing taste, but not something that I would crave for. You can't really taste the potato either.
The res of their dips nothing very spectacular, though there were some effort of creativity by creating their own dips. I quite like garlic mayonnaise but I didn't choose that cos I was afraid I would get sick of it toward s the end. They lost in the fries. I would prefer BFF's fries. Those skin-on ones.

 Motherly instincts. Haha.

Oh yes, did I mention that she cried during the movie! Kinda embarrassing, but luckily the theatre was a small one and Eve managed to appease her after a while.

The following day, N and I brought his bro out for a meal. It was a post-psle meal for him.
We decided to bring him out for a buffet cos it'll be damn worth for his appetite. Carousel was a good choice cos of credit card promo + we've always wanted to try the food there.
Christmas tree at Royal Plaza at Scotts. Pardon the way I stood. :P
Orange balenciaga inspired clutch from LOVE ANASTASIA

I will be blogging about the Buffet in the next post!

Ate till damn full and it was just nice for movie. What a nua day. Eat eat eat, then go into a dark room and just laze on the comfortable chair. And at night we went to his mum's boss' apartment for a Christmas party. Food-loaded day.

Anyway, we caught Rise of the Guardians. I was dying to watch Cold War but it wasn't showing any where in town.
credits to: Wikipedia

It's great to watch such shows once in a while. Reminds me of the child-like faith we have when we were young, choosing to believe in things rather than being skeptical.
The sandman is so cute!! Speaking to him could be so exciting cos he just flashes images like playing charades. Hahah and I just love to see the sand cos it is gold, shimmery and feels so good just by looking at it.

We walked to orchard and then back to somerset again cos N had to get a Christmas present for his younger bro.
I bought a Thomas & Friends bag for my nephew! On sale at $15 only. On top of that, I have $10 taka voucher, which meant that I only paid $5 for this. Comes with a card case and pencil case. Call me aunty as you wish. There was a nicer design but it was slightly bigger and it was a display piece. ): I ended up getting this cos he's really small and this was the smallest bag I could find. It was a steal! Thomas' merchandises are all so expensive okay.

Bed time! I will be blogging about the buffet at Carousel. Stay tuned!

Wreck-It Ralph

When mention the word "arcade" all I could think of is Daytona, Dance Dance Revolution, Para Para.. Bishi Bashi. I used to hang out in the arcade quite often as a kid and even when I reach secondary school. My friends and I would often spend our time (and money) shooting hoops. The last time I played a game there was probably Time Crisis (with N), which was a few years back. Oh yes, and of course I would remember those kiddy games like hitting cockroaches or rats with a plastic hammer. It's definitely a place that is part of all our child/youth hood!

This December, Wreck-It Ralph will bring us back to our youthful days once again! I'm so looking forward to catch the show that is directed by an award-winning director - Rich Moore. The movie is about a character (a bad one) in an arcade game, who was sick and tired of being the bad buy. He decided to set off on a journey across the arcade through multiple generations to prove that he can be a hero. Yes, an arcade character came to life! (I wouldn't want the cockroaches and rats of those kiddy games to come to life though) Along the way, he met many characters from other games. Things took a turn when he met an enemy that threatened the entire arcade!!

Watch the trailer here:

My favourite character is Vanellope. She is sooooo cute and she is always surrounded by sweets!
Just look at her cart made of sweet treats! Looks so yummy!!! Can't wait to catch the movie and indulge myself in that sugar rush world!! :D

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

Besides shopping, gambling and having fun at the theme park... You can experience winter in Genting!

Check out the newly renovated snow world this holiday at the link below! (:

Monday, 26 November 2012

It's snowing!!!

We will never ever get to experience snow in Singapore. If that happens, we're probably in deep shit.

So, the nearest we can enjoy artificial snow (other than in Jurong) is ..... Genting!
The cooling weather at Genting is enticing enough. To add on, the newly renovated Snow World at First World Plaza in Genting is one of the signature attractions over there!

That is a double incentive for you to go to Genting :D

Kuru Kuru

N and I had a buffet dinner to celebrate our JC classmate's birthday at Kuru Kuru Japanese Restaurant. The food was better than what I expected!
The weekday dinner buffet is about 30 plus for adults. The variety is wide and I did not manage to try every single dish but many of the recommended dishes did not disappoint. I did not take pictures of every dish as we were too busy eating and talking.

Valley Point
491 River Valley Road #01-07

Teriyaki Salmon (Top most) - Quite a simple dish. Grilled salmon drizzled with teriyaki sauce. Tasty!
Yaki Niku  - This stir-fried beef is awesome! It is the usual sweetly marinated thinly sliced beef stir fried with garlic and onions, sesame seeds.... I ate 2 plates on my own. This comes in another flavour - Black Pepper, which was nice because the black pepper taste is not overwhelming.

Seasoned Baby Octopus and Teriyaki Chicken (tastes similar to its Salmon counterpart)

Two pictures of this - Pork Belly. It was soooooo well marinated and it tastes like the Cha Shu of a nice Japanese Ramen. The fats disintegrate easily and once it melts in your mouth. (I only tried a little as it was too unhealthy)

Fresh sashimi, generously sliced. Salmon, octopus, yellow tail, tuna, sea bass.

The crowd wasn't very good. Probably cos of the location? Location wise, I felt that it was pretty off - quite a distance to the nearest MRT station. Nonetheless, it was a good dining experience! (:
The staff were observant and service was prompt. The dishes that we ordered all arrived in the right quantity despite us placing order messily. Sadly, the dessert were not included in the buffet. A top-up is required so we gave it a miss.

Love Anastasia Clutch and LB top!

One can never get enough of shopping

Besides eating, gambling, having fun at the theme park and enjoying the cool weather, you can also do some shopping at Genting!
I often hear people saying that Genting is boring, activities are limited, but NONONO!
My friends and I had to much fun the last time we went!
There are so many things we have not explored and be fore we do so, we should keep our judgements to ourselves!

This time round, Genting is having a Late Night Shopping Event from 9 November to 31st December!
All shops will extend opening hours to 1am.

SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK.

Johnson Duck Rice + Stayover + Birthday Celebration

I met up with N for dinner along Macpherson Road as his office is nearby. This place is a hidden find!
Johnson Duck. Done a search online and I found that there is a stall called Johnson Duck & Chicken at Ghim Moh Food Center. Most likely they're related. The logo is the same.

Anyway, I think this place is quite new. The interior is not like a coffeeshop. It is clean, furnished with wooden tables and chairs.

The menu has quite a variety of dishes and the had some promotion going on for the Claypot Rice.
Waiting time for the claypot rice is up to 30mins so I'm guessing that they used the raw rice and cooked it from scratch.
We ordered the Set Meal for 2 : 2 rice, duck meat, soup, beancurd and 2 drinks and it costs $12 (I added Kai Lan, which costs $3).
Pretty affordable for the spread right! Am average plate of duck rice would cost about $3.50 already.

Anyway, the food came as a surprise. The soup and beancurd was WAYYYY above expectation.
The soup was a bittergourd soup, with minced meat, tofu as well as some ginger slices. Light and complements the whole meal.

I would expect the beancurd to be the braised tau kwa... Probably one piece, sliced thinly and served on a small plate. But NO, the beancurd is a sweet and spicy beancurd, with shallots, spring onions and a little bit of minced meat. It wasn't FANTASTIC, but the fact that they serve an unexpected plate of beancurd was just commendable!

The duck was okay. Nothing very special, but it wasn't bad either. The sauce was a little bit different from normal duck rice sauce. Well, you could say it has the taste of a normal duck rice sauce, just that it has a tinge of herbal taste infused in it. I love it! The sauce wasn't oily as well, and I soaked my rice in it :D

A really worth it meal I would say! Sadly, their business isn't very good. Probably cos it's new? Or based on their renovation, passersby would think that the food would be expensive. That said, a plate of Char Siew or Roast Pork rice is only $2.50!

_________________________________________________________________________________

Two days ago I tweeted "The most not-looked-forward-to birthday of the year"
Well, it was jiaqi's birthday. We did not plan surprise on the actual day itself so I went to stayover at her hall so that she could spend the first few moments of her birthday with me :D
Had a simple steamboat & grill dinner and her friends came over with a pint of Haagen Dazs at 12 to celebrate with her. She was screaming and shouting "It's my birthday" for a good whole 15minutes at least and I swear the whole hall or even several other blocks could hear her loud and clear.
I was not amazed. Very used to this.
We spent the night studying. It wasn't very productive for me as I spent 4hours to complete one pathetic reading.

Lunched with Jiaqi the next day and I took a bus home. Rested for awhile and met up with bball girls at NEX where we bought a Strawberry Shortcake at Four Leaves and went to have Sliced Fish Soup outside SRJC. Our favourite hang out place and we've been frequenting that stall even though we've all graduated. My favourite is E-mian, with additional fish egg. Some stalls do have eggs but it just has a very strong, pungent taste and there's a yellow gooey stuff, which according to my mum, is the gall. The fish egg from this stall is always clean and very well-prepared and cooked.

The saddest birthday song ever. Everyone just had enough of her and couldn't wait for her birthday to be over. HAHAHAH.
